On 27th September, eShopWorld attended GELF NYC ’18 as a sponsor and guest. This yearly event in New York City brings together leaders from online retailers and global brands selling direct-to-consumer who share insights and best practices.

One of the hottest topics at GELF NYC ’18 was around whether or not retailers should use marketplaces.

In the opening keynote, Tom Davis from Cartier spoke about the pros and cons of marketplaces as strategic global sales distribution partners.

He spoke about why luxury brands continue to shy away from global marketplaces and the trade-offs regarding ownership of the customer data and the evolving role of digital in global wholesale and distribution strategies:

Other highlights included:

Executive Leaders Keynote Panel: How is Digital Transforming Global Distribution

  • Kevin Donnelly – Head of Supply Chain, YETI Coolers

Customer Experience and Engagement: Engaging the Global Shopper

  • Sumantro Das – Director of Product Innovation and Growth Brands, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM

GELF Solution Showcase: Where Tech Talks Global

  • David Power – Chief Solutions Officer, eShopWorld

Everyone was particularly fascinated by Sr. Business Development Manager Daniel Lee from JD.com because if they came to the West they would have a good chance at dominating the Amazon market. There was a lot of talk surrounding eCommerce in China throughout the day.

Overall, GELF NYC ’18 was a well-attended, beneficial event for global eCommerce leaders and we look forward to attending the next conference!
